Contact Lens for Astigmatism

My 4 year old step son has been diagnosed with keratoconus?

This does not usually get diagnosed until lates teens early 20's so far as I can tell with research. Can anyone tell me the outlook in someone so young and how long until he will need a transplant? Is there anything we can do to slow the process down apart from glasses/contacts. We are really worried.

  1. This site has tons of helpful info: http://www.aapos.org/displaycommon.cfm?an=1&subarticlenbr=81 http://aapos.affiniscape.com/associations/5371/aapos_search.cfm Each patient is different but, the disease usually progresses slowly for @ 10-20 years. The 2nd link above is a national map of Pediatric Specialists by state who treat this disease. I would suggest finding the closest specialist to you & making an appointment. They should be able to evaluate your step son's case & be a better reference source to answer all of your questions. Good luck!
