I can no longer wear contacts because my astigmatism is close to 3. I know they make torics, but I have tried many many brands of torics and none work. No matter what I try I always see double vision and halos indoors. It drives me insane. Does anyone else have this problem? If there is no solution I guess I will just stick with glasses but it would be wonderful to hear from others that have this problem. My doctors are getting sick of me going and complaining about the double vision and halos. They have given me a lot of trials of different brands and nothing is working. I guess rimless glasses FTW…
the double vision is only with contacts in, not glasses. I don’t have ms…don’t even bring that kind of thing up its not funny!

I want to get rid of my glasses, and I am considering contacts. Is there such thing as a colored contact that also corrects astigmatism?

i emailed to this site and they said
"Your OD is -1.50 and OS is -0.75. According to the details of your eye prescription, you have strong astigmatism and need toric lenses."
Are they right about my prescription? Where can I get toric circle lenses?

I had an eye appointment yesterday and the Dr. said I have astigmatism (which I already knew) and he also said it looks like I have a congenital cateract in my left eye. My right eye is fine but he says there is "no correcting the left eye with prescription" He referred me to speacialist but said the probably would not do surgery becasue of my age….? If anyone knows anything about congenital cateracts please let me know!
P.S I’m 20 years old.

About 10 years ago I went to the eye doctor, and got fitted for contact lenses. I have astigmatism, so I was fitted with soft toric lenses that are weighted on one side. After about six months, I ended up just going back to glasses.
I am a network technician by trade. Frequently this requires me to look under desks, or perform other tasks in which my head is rotated to peer under furniture or something similar. As soon as my head was not perfectly straight, gravity caused my weighted lenses to rotate which made my vision go out of focus.
My (then) eye doctor told me there really wasn’t a fix for the issue. That was a decade ago. I am curious if they now have developed lenses for people with astigmatism that don’t have that problem.

Hey guys, I’m only 19 years of age and I have really bad eyesight. About 1 year and a half ago, both my eyes were -2.50 each and I have astigmatism on top of that. I’m getting fed up with glasses and I just want to get rid of this nuisance. I also know that eating carrots improving your eye sight is just a myth. Any real way to improve your eyesight ?

I was having an exam for a contact lens fitting, and the dr. said disposable lenses were available for people with severe astigmatism now. But, he said that 4 "diopeters" were the highest prescription available for disposable. I have 8 in my right eye, and 6 in my left eye which he said was very bad. He seemed to make a big deal about it. Now, I’m worried. I’ve always had eye problems, but he made it sound worse than I thought it was. He also said I may have Keratoconis which I know is a corneal eye disease. Is blindness likely as I grow older. Please advise
I have worn specially fitted soft contact lenses since I was 14 years old. I am 33 now. I have noticed a slow but steady worsening of my condition. I saw a new Dr. this last time, and he did mention RGP lenses. Are RGP lenses the same as "hard" lenses? I’ve read that wearing these for many years can actually cause keratoconus. That info came from (www.nei.hih.gov/health/cornealdisease/index.asp) I want to know all I can about this condition. I feel the doctor is probably so busy he doesn’t have time to answer ALL of my questions, or thoroughly explain. Or maybe he just doesn’t want to break it to me. I just want to know what to expect in the next 10, 20 years. Thank you!
Thank You Werecow, the website you gave me was very helpful.

i just went to the eye doctors the other day and i have just found out that i have an astigmatism. i was planning on getting a pair of circle lenses (color contacts that are slightly bigger then the iris of your eye to make your eyes look bigger) but i dont know if i can order them anymore. ive heard that you can get some for asigmatisms but they dont come in a lot of colors but ive also heard that if tastigmatismism is juslightigh that you can just get regular ones. my prescription is
right eye: -1.75
left eye: -2.00 CYL: -0.50 AXIS: 171
does that mean i have a slight astigmatism. if so, should i just get regular circle lenses. thank you for any answers!

Hi,
I am using specs from the last 9-10 months(not continous though) for the cylindrical power (astigmatism)
sph cyl axis
R -0.50 -1.50 70
L -0.50 -1.25 100
and recently checked with an optometrist on March of 2007
I asked him that I am interested to have the contact lens since I am not comfortable using those specs. He told he could do that since my cornea is not flat and won’t be having any problem with the fitting of the lens.
He almost tried Accuvue advance for Astigmatism,Bausch and lomb , cooper vision (if iam not wrong) soft contact lens and nothing gave me 100% satisfaction since I find them convenient wearing for some time and in a sec I find everything is blurred for few secs and again normal. Mostly having problem when seeing the computer for a few mins. and when I am in the A/C while shopping in a mall or so.Do I need toseeother doct.
Please suggest.

I’ve just come back from my Specsavers contact lens assessment and am SO dissapointed, I always wanted brown eyes so this was my chance, when the opitician put them in my eyes I wanted them straight away but he put normal ones in first for me to walk around with for twenty minutes. When he put them in I could not see a thing they were so fuzzy and he said it was because of my astigmatism (I have rugby ball shaped eyes and not football shaped) which means I cannot wear tinted contact lenses at Specsavers, instead just normal ones. I was wondering whether anyone knew of any opticians in England where I can buy coloured contact lenses for people with astigmatisms?

About 3 years ago, I was putting in a contact and I accidentally pressed to hard and I felt my cornea flatten a bit.
After the 3 years, I am told I have an astigmatism, in the same eye I poked 3 years ago…
Is this coincidence or just hereditary?
Thanks for helping!
I barely poked it, there was definately no pain or anything. Hopeful it’s all good ^^

One of my colleagues came back today from an eye exam with a prescription for astigmatism. We wondered how much astigmatism would be present before someone would need to wear them all the time, whether it made a difference if the astigmatism was just in one eye (-0.50), or if the + or – made any difference at all? We don’t know much about astigmatism!
