will wearing regular contacts when i have astigmatism affect my vision?

I have astigmatism but my doctor prescribed regular contacts for me. I cant see very well with my contacts but I can see perfectly with my glasses.
will my vision always be bad regardless of prescription if I keep on wearing regular contacts instead of astigmatism contacts?

Your doctor is probably trying to keep you out of toric lenses (contact lenses for astigmatism) as long as possible. With astigmatism, your eye doesn’t have just one power but there are different powers in different meridians. So one of the meridians of the contact lens must be a different power and sit at the precise spot (not rotate like a normal contact lens does) for you to see clearly. Toric lenses are weighted so that they sit at the right spot and line up with your axis. They can still sometimes rotate slightly, causing transient blurred vision. It can take some people a little while to get used to wearing toric lenses so a lot of times the doctor will hold off as long as you’re seeing fairly well without them.
You said you can see very well out of your contacts – that’s great. If you decide it is not good enough, let your optometrist know and voice that you are interested in trying toric lenses.

if you are having problems with seeing outta your contacts then you need to tell your eye care professional about it so that they can get you the right kind to wear, i dont know why they gave you regular contacts with a astigmatism, i have one as well and they gave me contacts just for that. something must be wrong with the dr or he gave you the wrong prescription i would talk to them about it most diffentaly.
I wear contacts for astigmatism and let me tell you they still are blurry but i can see. No duh you would be able to see better with your glasses on so can I. Just go back to your doctor and ask to try a different pair of contacts it’s that easy.
Sometimes a Dr will still prescribe aspheric (regular) contacts if you have voiced that cost is an issue. If it’s not, there are several different toric (astigmatism correcting) lenses on the market. For some people the vision is never as good as their glasses, you just have to weigh the pros and cons. Keep in mind though that the lens manufacturers don’t make extreme prescriptions in disposables. You could try RGP (or gas perms, aka hard) lenses, the optics are better, they are not disposable, and they are not as comfortable, but you get used to them. They are also more expensive, but you can sometimes use them for 2 or 3 years with a regular polishing. Definitly talk to your Dr if you are not happy with your vision.
